Nanosecond lasers

Nanosecond lasers

We offer a wide range of nanosecond (ns) pulsed lasers for research (R&D) and laboratory applications as well as for industrial integration as an OEM.

Nanosecond lasers continue to be a prime industrial and research tool. Nanosecond lasers are no longer talked about, poor guys, as much as ultrashort picoseconds and especially femtoseconds, but the fact is that their expected market growth is higher than that of the others.

By the way, 1 ns = 10-9 s.

Nanosecond lasers are used in a wide variety of industrial, medical and scientific applications. Their relatively long pulses (compared to picosecond and femtosecond lasers) allow a good balance between precision and power. Some of their most relevant applications may be:

Industry and manufacturing
  - marking and engraving
- cutting and drilling of materials
- ablation
- laser cleaning and peening

Electronics and semiconductors
- printed circuit boards (PCB)

- micromachining (MEMS, sensors,...)

Medicine and esthetics
- tattoo and pigment removal
- dermatology
- ophthalmic surgery

Defense, aero and security
- LIDAR sensors
- interferometry, designators
- explosives deactivation
- bathymetry, airborne

Science & Research
- spectroscopy (LIBS, general)
- materials
- pumping OPO, Ti:Sa

- photoacoustic imaging
- holography

There are several techniques for manufacturing nanosecond lasers but at PCL we want to focus on DPSS lasers, including models with active Q-switch and others with passive Q-switch. There are lamp-pumped ns lasers with high pulse energy but they demand maintenance and are not environmentally friendly. Diode pumped lasers on the other hand reach very high repetition rates of KHz (vs. Hz or hundreds of Hz for flash lamp pumped lasers) and are maintenance free.
If you like pulsed fiber lasers, we also have options.

In the following table you can see our most common models of nanosecond pulsed lasers, with their maximum pulse energy and average power values for each emission wavelength.
