Picosecond lasers

Picosecond lasers

We offer a wide range of ultrafast picosecond (ps) lasers for research (R&D) and laboratory applications, as well as for industrial integration as OEM solutions.

What can we say about picosecond lasers? Or, more specifically, about picoseconds.

I feel a bit sorry for them because they’re neither as robust and stable on the market as nanosecond lasers nor as fast and on everyone’s lips as femtosecond lasers. Someone might say they’re “neither fish nor fowl,” but let’s not be cruel—they have their own little charm and a good range of applications.

Picosecond lasers have become a key tool in industrial, medical, and scientific applications where high precision, a minimal heat-affected zone (HAZ), and “cold” ablation processes are required. Their ultrashort pulses (on the order of 10 to the minus 12) allow energy to be deposited faster than the material can dissipate it thermally, which drastically reduces melting, burrs, and collateral damage.

Some of their most relevant applications of these ultrafast lasers:

Industry and Manufacturing
- Precision marking and engraving
- Microcutting and drilling of materials
- Selective layer-by-layer ablation
- Functional surface texturing

Electronics and Semiconductors
- Precision micromachining (MEMS, sensors, microchannels)
- Thin wafer debonding and cutting
- Thin-film ablation

Medicine and Aesthetics
- Fine removal of tattoos and pigments
- Advanced dermatology
- Ophthalmic surgery and microsurgery

Defense, Aerospace, and Security
- High-temporal-resolution LIDAR
- Interferometry and advanced metrology
- Deactivation or neutralization of sensitive materials
- Microfabrication of lightweight aerospace components

Science and Research
- Ultrafast spectroscopy and high-resolution LIBS
- advanced materials
- OPO pumping and nonlinear systems

- photoacoustic imaging
- nonlinear microscopy
- ultrafast holography and metrology
