Laser power & energy

Laser power & energy

Anyone who works with lasers should periodically check the power of the laser, whether it is a laser in a laboratory or integrated into a machine or system.
Time may degrade the response of the laser generator, or something may be wrong. Or it is simply convenient to monitor the power of the laser or that which reaches the sample after passing through certain optical components.

For this reason, we offer laser power and energy sensor heads for laboratory use and also models in different OEM formats for machine integration. Indicated for basic and applied research applications and also for industrial applications.
Sensors traditionally had to be connected to an external laser power and energy meter (measuring console) that processed the electrical signal to take measurements. Today our laser sensors can be chosen with 3 connection modes (only one per sensor):
- to an external laser power and/or energy meter (independent measuring console but with USB connection to PC)
- direct to computer or controller via USB
- direct to computer or controller via RS-232
With these sensor formats we offer from very high sensitivity of the order of nW to tens of KW based on photodiode, thermopile or calorimeter technologies.

The USB or RS232 versions are cheaper but if you need several different sensors (for example for several lasers with very different power levels) it is cheaper to buy the sensors and the external meter. All sensors can be connected to the console without having to pair them at the factory ("Plug and Play"; only one at a time on the laser meter).

We also offer OEM sensors in different formats so that the integrator has a first-class sensor element and can take care of the control and electronics to a greater or lesser extent.
These OEM laser power and energy sensors are limited in maximum power.

You may also be interested in our handheld power probes, an economical solution for technicians who need to carry out occasional measurements. They are especially suitable for the technical service of manufacturers and sellers of laser systems and machines.

Our novel MLP-Blink ultrafast power and energy sensors can measure the energy of trains of pulses and not just single pulses. Furthermore, they measure the energy of each pulse of the train (whether subway, suburban or high speed). These sensors are based on the Laser Induced Transverse Voltage (LITV) effect, which allows response times much faster than those of usual thermopiles, measuring at laser frequencies up to 1 MHz. They are therefore an almost mandatory tool for developers and users of ultrafast lasers (picosecond and femtosecond) and their systems.

Our categories in laser power and energy measurement:
- sensor heads
- ultra-fast Blink sensors
- meters
- hand-held probes

All these products have a 3-year warranty.
At PCL we are the LaserPoint distributors in Portugal and Spain.

By the way, power is measured in watts (W) and energy in joules (J).
